This Army Dog Was Reunited With Her Owner After Being Lost In Afghanistan For More Than A Year

Sarbi, a Labrador cross, was trained to sniff out improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in Afghanistan. She went missing in action (MIA) when shrapnel cut her lead during a bloody four-hour firefight. Her owner never gave up on her, though. He spent ten days searching the area for her; when he could not find her, he feared she had been killed. Sabi went on to spend fourteen months in southern Afghanistan, until she was spotted by a US soldier and returned home.

Postscript: Sarbi passed away on 27 March 2015 and was awarded the War Dog Operational Medal, the highest honour for miltary canines, and the Purple Cross by the RSPCA.
